Comrades for Cancer

June 03, 2022 | Junior Preparatory

On Friday 27 May the Junior Prep was abuzz with excitement as they hosted the annual Comrades for Cancer campus run.

The children made their way to the Boys’ Prep Field bleachers where they sat, happily chatting to their friend while waiting for their turn to start.

Mrs Harris welcomed everyone and shared that the comrades was not about winning, but about how one supports, cares and cheers everyone on the way to the finish line. She went on to let them know that the money raised would be donated to cancer research. There was a special guest who was also going to be part of the morning, Saedi, Mrs Harris’s dog, who walked the comrades in honour of all the animals who have cancer.

The children made their way to the start of the race one class at a time starting.

The Grade R children went first, followed by Grade RR  who would be running around the Prep Field, then Grade 1 and lastly Grade 2. They dashed off eagerly, cheered on by the teachers and fellow students.

In true comrades fashion there were water stations along the way which were manned by the parents assisting. There were crowds of College students and teachers cheering and encouraging the children on.

A chocolate station which was a firm favourite among the children, gave the extra boost that they needed to finish the race.

Thank you One & All for all the hard work that went into planning the day. It was hugely successful and your support was greatly appreciated.
