‘Comrades for Cancer’ Mini Marathon

May 20, 2016 | Junior Preparatory

On 19 May, a magnificent Highveld winter morning, the Junior Prep set off on a mini Comrades Marathon around the St Stithians campus.

The run was to support Mr Carel Nolte, our chair of Council, who is running his third Comrades to raise money for cancer research. The Junior Prep raised R15 000 to support him in this compassionate cause.

In addition to this being a great physical and outreach activity for our children, it was also a life skills lesson whereby our children learned the value of doing something important for others. It was not easy for all our children but with the support of their friends and teachers, in true Comrades spirit, all made it to the finishing line.

The children were joined on their run by Carel Nolte, our Rector, Dr Tim Nuttall, our Head, Mrs Gayle Harris (and her dog Sadie), our staff, including Mr Byron Moreton, who is also running his third Comrades this year.

The day would not have taken place without the vision of our Head and thanks goes to our staff, the Junior Prep Sports Department, security and paramedics as well as our Class Reps. Their encouragement and assistance at the waterholes along the route was invaluable. In the true spirit of synergy, the Grade 7 boys assisted in running with the children. Thanks to the Girl’s Prep for their encouragement along the route. A last heartfelt thanks goes to Mr Shaun Edmeston, Chair of the O.S.A. for their generous donation to assist in raising the money.

A wonderful morning was had by ‘One and All’.
