Boys’ College Honours Mandela Day with Acts of Service and Gratitude

Boys’ College

This powerful reminder guided our Mandela Day celebrations at our Boys’ College. Today, our Grade 8 students embraced Mandela’s spirit of selflessness through a purposeful, skills-based programme designed to give back to those in need.

Our boys spent the morning spreading kindness through four meaningful activities. They started by making cozy blankets for animal shelters with the help and guidance of our amazing PSG (Parent Samaritan Group) parents, ensuring warmth and comfort for our furry friends in need. Next up, they got creative crafting scarves and tin utensils for the homeless - small acts that make a big difference.

A reflective session on gratitude and the true meaning of Mandela Day, where Rev Elroy Kekana and Coach Roland Andongndou inspired the boys to live with empathy and purpose. To wrap it all up, the boys teamed up with the CLOTHES TO GOOD organisation and its staff to make fun, educational toys for Early Childhood Development Centres in Diepsloot because every child deserves the gift of learning.

Mandela Day at the Boys’ College is more than 67 minutes; it’s a commitment to compassion, action, and meaningful change. Our students embraced the day as a powerful learning experience. Beyond completing activities, they developed practical skills and discovered the value of giving back, reflecting Mandela’s spirit of selflessness and service.

Our commitment does not end with Mandela Day. Throughout the year, the Boys’ College continues to run House initiatives such as vegetable and goods collections, ensuring that support for our communities remains ongoing. These efforts demonstrate our dedication to living out Mandela’s principles daily, not just on one occasion.

As we reflect on this day, we are reminded of Nelson Mandela’s enduring legacy and our responsibility in passing on his values. At the Boys’ College, we strive to foster a culture of empathy, service, and active citizenship, empowering our students to make a world of difference - one act of kindness at a time.

A heartfelt thank you to the staff and parents involved, especially the PSG group under the leadership of Mrs Janita McAslin, whose commitment and generosity made this day impactful and transformative for our students.
