Stephanie Sanders (Grade 11) and Tegan Korevaar (Grade 10) brought back 6 medals at the Ghent International Rowing Regatta in Belgium.

After submitting their Ergo times to the South African Schools Rowing Unior  and participating in the South African Rowing Championships we were delighted that three of our girls were invited to the trials to represent SA at the International Regatta in Belgium.  Tegan Korevaar was selected as part of the U16 squad consisting of 8 girls from South Africa and Stephanie Sanders was one of 5 U17s chosen to represent South Africa.

What followed was a 6 week, 8 sessions a week training schedule until they finally travelled to Belgium to compete in one of the largest rowing regattas in the world.  Tegan and Stephanie were fortunate enough to make several crews and endured two hard days of racing in unfamiliar waters.  Tegan was awarded 2 bronze medals, one for the U16 quad, the other for the Senior Women 8 and a gold medal in the U18 quad.  Stephanie received a bronze in the Senior Women 8, a silver in the quad and a gold medal in the U18 8.

This opportunity not only developed their rowing technique and strength but also allowed them to develop a close bond with the girls that they usually compete against from schools in South Africa.  Being part of the SASRU squad has been the highlight of their rowing career to date and we are delighted with these wonderful achievements and wish them well for the forthcoming season where they can put all their new skills and techniques into practice.
