Round Square International Conference – Beyond The Dunes
The Round Square International Conference in Dubai, themed “Beyond the Dunes”, offered our students a valuable opportunity to engage with peers from around the world through a mix of discussions, activities, and cultural experiences.
A key moment for the students was a panel discussion with “People of Determination” — individuals living with different disabilities. The panel included two people with autism (one of whom is the well-known Emirati artist Abdulla Lufti), a blind participant, a deaf participant, a person with dwarfism, and a Paralympic athlete with Down syndrome. Hearing their stories gave students a powerful insight into resilience, talent, and the importance of inclusion. It was a clear reminder that everyone deserves to be recognised for who they are and treated equally.
Students also took part in service, environmental, and adventure activities, which helped them develop new skills, work collaboratively, and connect with delegates from other countries.
Overall, the conference was an enriching experience that encouraged reflection, empathy, and a broader understanding of the world. Our students return with fresh perspectives and inspiration to continue applying the Round Square IDEALS of Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, and Service in their daily lives.
