Mzansi @Venice Biennale Young Artist competition

October 31, 2022 | Girls’ College | Author: Mr Jean Bollweg

On Friday 14 October, one of our Grade 10 Visual Artists, Tamlyn Martin, was awarded her first-place cash prize by the Mzansi @Venice Biennale Young Artist competition. Accompanying the award, we had a talk by renowned artist and photographer, Roger Ballen. Other than her cash prize, Tamlyn won the opportunity to work with Roger Ballen in his studio for a day, and an image of her painting will be displayed in the 2022 Venice Biennale in Italy.

A cash prize to be spent on art materials was also awarded to the school. This is an incredible accomplishment for the Visual Art department, and we are very proud of our young winner, who competed against several other exceptional entries across the country.
