COLLEGE MARIMBA FESTIVAL
It is seldom that large numbers of students are able to gather together to create music, which is why the College Marimba Festival is always an extraordinary event. This year, over a 100 students participated in playing their wonderful renditions of both traditional and modern songs. After beginning the night with a combined item, Stand by Me, the students proceeded to entertain the audience with their rhythm, style, originality and energy. Track 12, a compilation of songs also performed by all the participants, perfectly ended the night off, making this year's festival one to remember. A vote of thanks must be given to all the performers, as well as those who continue to guide them in their marimba journeys. May everyone continue to play with their hearts and enjoy the wonderful instrument that is the marimba!
KINGSMEAD FESTIVAL
The only word that can sum-up the Kingsmead Orchestra Festival is "Bravo!" An incredible array of musical talent was showcased by the ensemble and orchestral groups who performed over the three nights. It was a wonderful opportunity to experience a whole variety of instruments playing in different styles and combinations. The St Stithians College Orchestra performed three pieces: Love Theme, Irish Dance and Nella Fantasia, all of which received an enthusiastic response from the audience. The night was truly an incredible reflection of the many hours of rehearsal and practice that we all put in. Allowing students to make music together is what is so magical about festivals like these. I hope that this event and others like it will continue to grow, providing music students like us with the opportunity to express our talents.
