Congratulations to Tyla Panzera who was selected to represent SA in the Junior SA Swimming Team to participate in the CANA IV swimming gala in Mauritius where she was selected to race in 8 events in 4 days.  A remarkable achievement - well done!

Toni won a scholarship to attend St Andrew's University in Scotland for their summer school Creative writing workshop.  She will be flying to Scotland and attending the university from the 9-31 July.  We are especially proud of Toni because she was one of 20 selected worldwide!

Kaylan competed in the Miss Junior SA Pageant which was held in Pretoria from the 22-26th March.  The competition consisted of different ramp categories as well as a series of interviews. Kaylan was crowned as 1st princess and won the Best Ramp award in her age category.  She also received the award for Overall Best of the Best Ramp achieving the highest score out of all 250 contestants from South Africa between the ages of 6 and 19.

Leila Fernandes and Kate Hinrichs are our two representatives in the South African U16A Water Polo Team.  This team will be going to Auckland, New Zealand to participate in the Pan-Pacific Youth Games. This U16 team will participate in two sections – Under 16 tournament from 9-13 July and the U18 tournament from 15-19 July. 

 

PIERRE LE ROUX - COACH AND CAPTAIN

Congratulations to Mr le Roux who has been selected as the SA U16 Coach to attend the Pan Pacific Youth Games in July in New Zealand.  Mr le Roux  has also been selected as the captain of the SA Men's team that will compete in the EU cup in Malta in the middle of May.  His Gauteng team also won the Currie Cup in Durban for the 12th year in a row this past holiday.

 

CURRIE CUP U18 WATER POLO - SA SENIOR AQUATICS EVENT

The following St Stithians Girls' College 1st Team players were selected to represent Gauteng at the recent Currie Cup Championships. The tournament took take place in Durban – 21 April – 24 April 2016.

A special note needs to be made at the age of all these girls – as this is an U18 selection every one of these girls selected are playing against older, more experienced girls – a fantastic achievement.

 


BIANCA PRINSLOO

Bianca Prinsloo was selected for the South African U17 Girls Waterpolo Team that played in the EU Nations Cup in Denmark from 1-3 April. The team won the tournament, scoring 103 goals and only conceding 15 goals. Bianca was part of the starting 7 for each match.  Bianca is part of the SA U18 Squad and has been invited to the next round of trials for the Junior World Championships in New Zealand.

Well done to Tegan Korevaar on her achievements at the recent SA Senior National Championships at Roodeplaat.  Tegan and her respective crews won 3 gold medals for Gauteng. They also broke the course records for the women's 8 and the women's coxless quad.

Well done to Nicole Masson  who rowed for the SA Schools Rowing union at Dorney Lake, Eton College in the UK.  Her quad won their heat and came 6th in the final.  She will be racing at the Bedford regatta in the UK in May.

Well done to Claudia Dobson who won a Silver medal for Kata in the Cadet Girls 14 to 15 years Division at the Karate South Africa National Championships held on 18th – 19th March in Durban where all the 8 provinces were represented. She will now have an opportunity to compete in the Zone 6 Championship in Zimbabwe and WKF K1 Youth League Championship in Croatia. We wish Claudia all the best.

Well done to all the girls who played in the SA National Junior Tennis Championships over the Easter weekend (Jess Assenmacher, Caitlin Klaassen and Tayla van Eck). Caity came 10th in the U18 singles. Jess came 11th in the U16 singles and was runner up in the U16 doubles and mixed doubles events.  Special mention of Tayla van Eck who won the singles final and is the SA U18 Singles Champion for 2016!  Well done to Caity Klaassen who played for Central Gauteng in the inter-provincial this past weekend. Central Gauteng won the tournament and Caity has been selected as a reserve for the SA Team that goes to London, Wimbledon later this year.

9 swimmers qualified for South African Senior National Championships held from 10-16 April 2016.  Raquel Correia sadly had to withdraw from the event due to an appendix op and Emma Wallis withdrew after swimming the Open Water Nationals.  Those who competed were: 
Youth:

Elite Youth:        

  • Leigh Hudson - made the semi-finals for 50m and 100m breast.
  • Emma Tarr - made the semi-finals for the 50m and 200m back.

Well done to all swimmers who swam in Level 3 Nationals 2 weeks ago. At the recent SA Level 3 National Swimming Championships, GC swimmers won 9 medals in total and the following swimmers all made finals: Gina Miller, Becky Wallis, Emma Tarr, Leigh Hudson and Cayleigh de Sousa.  

Special mention of Gina Miller who won 2 bronze medals (200m & 400m free), Becky Wallis who also won 2 bronze medals (200m & 400m free), Leigh Hudson who won 1 gold medal and 1 bronze medal (50m breast & 100m breast) and Emma Tarr who won 3 silver medals (50m, 100m & 200m back).

Well done to all swimmers who swam in level 2 Regionals last week. At the recent SA Level 2 Regional Swimming Championships, GC swimmers won 8 medals and the following swimmers all made finals: Jayme van Wyk, Tyla Panzera, Georgy Turner, Leigh-Anne Behrens and Sally Tarr.

Special mention of Georgy Turner who won 2 gold medals and 2 silver medals (50m&100m fly, 50m back& 200m IM) and Tyla Panzera who won 3 gold medals, 1 silver and 2 bronze (200m free, 200m IM & 100m fly, 50m fly, 400m free & 100m free).

Well done to the 1st team hockey team for their performance at the Easter Festival where they lost only 1 game, as well as their performance at the St Mary’s Hockey Tournament this past weekend. They lost only 2 games and drew or won the rest and ended in10th position overall out of 36 schools.

Congratulations to our Maths Intern Mr Wiskey Ngobeni who was one of the top 3 performers from the Saints Interns for his studies last year.  He obtained 75.4% average and 4 distinctions in the FET and SNR phase Maths and Science category.  He won a cash prize to the value of R2000.

Showjumping: Jessica James came 2nd in the 1m & Chiedza Manikai came 6th in the 70cm.
Equitation: Kelsey-Rae Whitehouse came 2nd in the Open section, Melissa James 2nd in the 80cm, Tammy Hirst 3rd in the 80cm and Emma Watson 4rd in the 90cm event.
Dressage: Jenna Lightfoot placed 7th, Sarah Smith 5th and Stephanie Ludi 3rd.
