Major wins for our Tennis players in KZN

September 27, 2022 | Boys’ College

Over the past weekend, our 1st Tennis team travelled to KZN to participate in the annual Hilton College/St Anne's Boys’ Doubles and Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament. For those unfamiliar with the format, boys’ and girls’ teams are partnered and then compete in boys’ doubles championships, girls’ doubles championships and then in a mixed doubles championship. Although the emphasis is clearly on the tennis, this tournament affords the players an opportunity to socialise with players from all over the country. The tournament is characterised by great sportsmanship and camaraderie while always being a lot of fun. For many schools there is little other opportunity for them to play mixed doubles and so this element of competition is embraced enthusiastically in the tournament.

We are pleased to announce that we won the Boys’ Doubles by beating Westville in the finals. Our 1st Team has won this tournament eight times in a row. During the mixed doubles, we were paired up with St Mary's Waverley, and defeated Westville/St Mary's Kloof in the finals. We have now won the mixed doubles tournament nine times consecutively.

Congratulations to our 1st Team - Connor Doig, Moeketsi Mokete, Matthew Bezuidenhout, Quentin Nakano, Declan Halsey, Junior Dzenga, and Kulani Shipalana, we are incredibly proud of their achievements.
