Grade Seven Market Day

On Friday 13 September, our Grade Seven students participated in an exciting Market Day, a key component of the EMS (Economic and Management Sciences) curriculum. This event allowed students to work in groups of their choice to create and manage their own  businesses, providing them with invaluable hands-on experience in entrepreneurship.

The day began beautifully, with students setting up their colourful stalls by 8 AM. The atmosphere was electric as they prepared to showcase a variety of products, including delicious pastries, savoury snacks, slushy delights, and gaming stations. Once everything was in place, the Grade Seven students gathered for a prayer, as well as an inspiring message from our Head of School Mr. Majola, who wished them success in their ventures. Our Spirit Leaders then took centre stage, leading a lively war cry that filled the air with passion and pride, setting the tone for the day ahead. When the market officially opened, the excitement grew as Boys’ Prep juniors arrived to support their older brothers. Thirty minutes later, the Junior Prep returned from their chapel service, eager to join in the bustling business bonanza.

Throughout the day, our budding entrepreneurs engaged in trade with their peers from Boys' Prep, Girls' Prep, as well as students from the Girls' College and Boys' College. The staff also joined in on the fun,  purchasing delicious treats and participating in various games, creating a sense of community and camaraderie. As midday approached, the market began to wind down, with many stalls having sold out of their offerings. The pride on the students'   faces was unmistakable as they reflected on their successful sales. After the market closed, our diligent students, alongside the wonderful cleaning staff, tidied up the Boys' Prep New Block, ensuring that no trace of the market remained.

A special thank you to our capable Grade Seven entrepreneurs and their supportive families for making this event such a memorable experience. We look forward to more opportunities that inspire our students to embrace their entrepreneurial spirit!
