BP Teachers are “artists”

March 07, 2016 | Boys’ Preparatory

Once again our Synergy Model yielded results; Dr. Nuttall presented a Chapel service to the BP and our collective interest of staff from Rector to interns proved yet again that our College is a place of happy fulfilment. While Dr. Nuttall spoke about our College against the backdrop of our Methodist Foundation, we could not but admire the beautiful Chapel with its stunning stained glass windows. At boys’ prep we have the pleasure of being present in our Chapel each Monday and Thursday morning while we attend our time tabled Chapel session.

Many a vibrant message is told in Chapel, and often sitting and gazing at our vibrant stained glass encourages the mind to ponder not just on the speakers message, but to reflect or simply appreciate the beauty of the artist creation of our stained glass -the stained glass is designed for light.

To look at a stained glass window in the dark is to miss the artist’s intent. Its true beauty and full meaning cannot be understood without light pouring through it — the more light, the better.

So it is with our boys, we need to see each boy for the gift he is and to see him in the various ways he presents himself.

Allow us some creative imagination, and as teachers, we can be compared to stained glass or artists.

As a vibrant diverse staff, we are the multi-coloured glass with light filtering through us, in many different shades. As we aim to inspire our boys our light shines into many many hues. Our calling is not only to direct our boys and let their experience at the prep be filled with many colours but also our intent to make the growth process a joyful journey.

True art contains heart, passion, emotion, experience, and finesse to fine-tune an idea into a beautiful product. The Boys’ Preparatory teachers display these qualities as they mould and shape each boy to be the best he can be.

Artists understand the fundamentals of their craft, but they’re also able to insert a large portion of themselves into their work, to make decisions on the fly, and to subtly fine tune a product one day at a time. Your BP Teachers, too, see the boys as their masterpieces, and they draw on more than just a set code of teaching techniques to teach the boys. Without hesitation, you teachers insert large daily doses of themselves into the boys and our prep.

Our rich academic curriculum and comprehensive extra-curricular programme allows us to mould minds; while our values based education and Methodist roots allow us to mould hearts too.
