Grade 6 Celebration of Learning
On 18 October, the Grade Six boys hosted their Celebration of Learning. The Topic was Democracy and Citizenship, and the focus was on Political campaign speeches, Voting and the IEC. We welcomed our Grade Six parents into our learning space, and they gracefully carried out their roles as the audience for the campaign speeches, also acting as voters. Eight political parties delivered their campaign speeches, and we were entertained by Eli Gradidge on his trumpet. The speeches were a tightly contested affair, with little separating the parties. The rest of the student body performed the duties of the IEC. They did a fantastic job of preparing the voting venue leading up to the day and facilitating proceedings on the day of the elections. Here are some responses from the boys when asked what they found most beneficial:
Learning how to speak in front of a crowd.
I found conquering my fear in front of people by talking to them.
It was because I could usher the parents.
It helped us understand politics and how it worked.
The speaking - giving the chance for us to learn how to convince people to vote for us.
I enjoyed doing speeches because it helped me work on my ability to conduct speeches better.
The winning party was announced during that week's Chapel service, and these boys will have the opportunity to carry out their school improvement plan.
