#40DaysAtGC Awareness Campaign

September 17, 2019 | Campus, Boys’ College, Girls’ College

A message from Dr Sally James (Head of St Stithians Girls' College) and David du Toit (Head of St Stithians Boys' College)

Over the past few days our country has risen up to take a stand against gender-based violence and continued inequality issues which plague our society. Gender is a matter that is close to home in the Girls’ College where we strive through our broader curriculum and leadership programme to grow strong and courageous young women who are destined for great things. Today we launch an awareness campaign initiated, owned and run by our student body. #40days@GC.

Small acts and initiatives over 40 days will provide our community with daily reminders, conversation openers and opportunities to explore and better understand the rights of women and the desire of each one of us to live out our dreams without fear. This video marks the start of our period of activism which will run through to the 8th of November. Look out for visual clues, communication and daily acts, we value your support.

The Boys’ College joins the Girls’ College in taking a stand against gender based violence and inequality. This societal challenge has reached a tipping point in our country and the world at large. We stand together with the Girls’ College and are committed to joining many of the daily initiatives.  Today marks the start of our joint commitment, our support for one another and a step towards shifting attitudes, calling out behaviours and actively working towards change.

Join us on our journey.
