A Full-Circle Storytelling Experience
Cross-campus synergy within our curriculum is one of the many aspects that makes Saints such a special and unique place for our students. Throughout the year, our Grade R children have wonderful opportunities to connect with their older Saints ‘brothers and sisters’, creating meaningful relationships across the school.
On 28 September, our Grade Rs waited with great excitement for the Grade 10 Girls’ College students to cross the field for this much-anticipated annual event. The Grade 10s had once again been challenged to write and illustrate original children’s books, with this year’s stories featuring rhyme, a distinctly South African flavour, imaginative neologisms and an uplifting moral or lesson.
When the Grade 10s arrived at the Junior Preparatory with their colourful storybooks, the excitement was palpable. Hand in hand, the students found special places around the Grade R block to share their stories. Our six-year-olds were captivated, eagerly asking for “more!” and delighting in the characters and adventures.
The beautiful illustrations and imaginative stories created by the Grade 10 students were truly magnificent. Back in their classrooms, the Grade Rs continued to retell and act out the stories, discuss their favourite characters and enthusiastically debate which Grade 10 author had written the best tale! The Grade 10 students generously left the books with the Grade Rs to page through in our reading corners. What a wonderful way to bring the magic of reading and writing to life and inspire our young Saints to dream of becoming authors themselves. One and All - connected through stories, imagination and a shared love of learning.
