Young Ornithologists in Action

Junior Preparatory, Campus

Our Grade R students have had a wonderful term exploring the fascinating world of birds through art, inquiry, outdoor education and hands-on discovery. Creativity took flight as they painted feathers, created bird-themed artwork, sculpted nests and brought their learning to life through imaginative play and puppet theatre performances. Their beautiful creations have transformed our classrooms into vibrant celebrations of learning and imagination. The children especially enjoyed experimenting with different art techniques and materials to represent the unique features of various birds. These creative experiences encouraged self-expression while reinforcing their growing knowledge of the bird world.

Taking full advantage of our beautiful campus, the children embarked on bird walks with handmade binoculars and identification booklets, observed birds from the hides, and built nests using natural materials gathered from the playground. Through asking questions, researching, examining feathers under magnifying glasses and microscopes, and investigating shadows, they developed a deeper understanding of both birds and the natural world. They were fascinated by the variety of birds they encountered and eagerly shared their observations with their classmates. These hands-on experiences nurtured a sense of wonder, curiosity and respect for the environment. It has been a term filled with joyful learning, meaningful discoveries and memorable outdoor adventures.
