Love of the Arts Blooms at Synergy Festival
Valentine's Day took on a new dimension this year as our Girls’ Prep and Boys’ Prep students celebrated the most enduring love of all—the love of artistic expression. The annual Synergy Arts' Festival transformed an ordinary school day into an extraordinary journey through creativity and movement.
The morning began quietly but quickly erupted with energy as boys and girls gathered for hands-on activities. Each grade explored different artistic mediums: from dazzling sand art pieces, to launching handmade rockets fashioned from recycled bottles, to the ancient satisfaction of transforming raw clay into vessels of their own design.
The festival's centrepiece featured three captivating theatrical productions. "Wanda the Musical" had students swaying to its rhythms, while "The Red Balloon" captured their imaginations with its visual storytelling. "Mr Hare Meets Mr Mandela" delivered both hearty laughter and meaningful messages about our shared heritage.
The day then shifted from creation to movement. Students moved their bodies to silent disco beats with headphones pulsing, learned synchronised Zumba routines, practised hip-hop dance moves, stomped through gumboot dancing traditions and felt the primal rhythms of djembe drumming. Each grade participated in one of these exhilarating movement forms, their bodies becoming instruments of artistic expression.
While Valentine's cards may commemorate love for a day, artistic expression captures the human experience for generations, allowing the beating heart of artistic creation to connect us all.
