Sport: St. Stithians and Penryn College

June 03, 2014 | Boys’ Preparatory

There is no doubting that sport plays a significant role in the relationship between St Stithians College and Penryn College. Penryn was founded by St Stithians in the early 1990's. In the lives of many boys in our preparatory and indeed in many of the staff in the schools, sport continues to build on the wonderful connection and History that exists between the two colleges. What accounts for this charm?

It is doubtful that sport simply provides an outlet for another tour. This is too simplistic. Sport, attracts for many reasons - its beauty and grace; spectators and players are moved by the discipline of skill and commitment; and often it is the sportsmanship and courage in sport that gets applauded.

But this is not all. The Football provided participants with a vehicle for self-expression, and a way to grow character and self-development.

As sport is one of our Saints Pillars, it dramatizes our school character. As a microcosm, sport represents, a "slice of life" at boys' preparatory and exhibits that slice in a passionate and vivid form.
In addition to football skills, the Penryn tour reflects the positive spirit within our collective team. On display for all to enjoy was the friendship between the boys, the relationship building between both colleges, the manners and sportsmanship our boys display as well as the Saints values directly and indirectly shown by our boys.

The staff loved the chance to enjoy the gift of our work within a scenic environment. Football results were excellent, but more importantly, the character development and further growth of our young gentleman was a true gift.
