Despite the lack of a competitive rowing season, SA Rowing opted to put a National Training Squad together with a view to qualifying boats for the Junior World Rowing Championships to be held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria in August 2021. Athletes were invited from across the country based on previous results, with Zarret Mills receiving a wild card invitation to trial.

Zarret made the most of this opportunity, gaining selection to the U18 Coxed Four, which was invited to race at the National Squad Selection Regatta, the qualifying event for South African crews aiming to compete at World Championships. Zarret and his crew (made up of Zarret, two St Alban’s and St Benedict's students respectively), performed well enough on the day to be selected to represent South Africa at the World Championships.

We wish him well and congratulate Zarret as he continues his preparation for the regatta and look forward to seeing him race on the international stage whilst flying the Saints Rowing flag high.
