Representing South Africa in Show Jumping

August 05, 2015 | Boys’ College

The 4th Equestrian qualifier was held just before half term. Tom Triggol (grade 9) took 3rd place in one of the 1.2m show jumping events and has been selected for the Gauteng Central A Team in both 1.2 metre events.

Tom was also selected to ride in the popular, annual “German Friendships” where he represented South Africa in show jumping during July. It has a similar set-up to the FEI Finals he rode in Mexico in January, where they draw a German horse’s name out of a hat, which they ride for the duration of the show jumping competition.

Once again, the tough task was to bond with your horse within a day, and learn all its habits, good and bad, in order to perform as best as you can. Each of the 30 international riders invited worldwide, pair up with a German rider forming a team, where they compete against the other 30 teams.

We are pleased to announce that Tom came 3rd out of 54 riders, 27 of them being Germans on their own horses. He and his German partner ended 1st overall.

Tom is congratulated on these fantastic results.
