"A Cultural Calabash"

Peta was granted an award from ISASA to attend the BIBAC Conference at Cambridge University. She subsequently submitted an abstract and presented her paper to over 300 delegates from 16 countries on the transformative power of the theatre-making process to build bridges between people from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.

In her words...

"It was AMAZING! The opening performer was an mbira player from Zim who I've got lots of connections with and he had modified  his instrument so that the finger-piano bit was inside a giant calabash. My paper is entitled: South Africa: a Cultural Calabash and it is a device/metaphor that I weave throughout the presentation (I even had some African maracas to make it more interactive with the audience), so it was absolutely perfect". (also)  "The resonance with other practitioners from all over the world is incredible. Feeling truly inspired!"

Peta is incredibly grateful to ISASA for the award and also to St Stithians College and the Thandulwazi Academy who gave her the platform to make an impact as a creative arts educator/administrator.
