Mystery Reader Day

May 05, 2023 | Junior Preparatory

The JP held a read-aloud activity where guest readers were invited to visit the classroom to share a favourite book. The identity of the reader was kept secret until the reader entered the classroom on the scheduled day. The reader could bring along props, a simple craft, or a snack that was related to the book, or simply visit the classroom and read aloud.

It was exciting and FUN for the students, teachers and the guest reader. One of the benefits of a Mystery Reader Day is that students love welcoming visitors into their classroom. Inviting guest readers into the classroom adds variety and exposes students to other readers whose style of reading is different to that of the class teacher. It builds excitement and an interest in reading, as the students do not know who the reader will be.

An added benefit is that students get to practise hosting others, sending thank you notes after the mystery reader’s visit.

Thank you to everyone who was involved in making this a memorable time for our children.
