Junior Prep Sport-a-thon!

November 15, 2019 | Junior Preparatory

Thursday morning, 7 November, started off like no other day in the Junior Prep. The Grade R children arrived at school with their bicycles, rollerblades, prams - anything that had wheels! The Grade 1 and 2 children were in high spirits and very excited about the day that lay before them.

Perfect weather - check.

Excitement - check.

The much anticipated Swim-a-thon/Walk-a-thon/Wheel-a-thon was off to a great start.

The Grade R children participated in the Wheel-a-thon and the Grade 1and 2 children participated in the Swim-a-thon or Walk-a-thon. The classes went up in their time slots to the Aquatics Centre, Astro Car Park and Henning Field. This year the weather was on our side as the sun was out with no sight of rain.

The Grade R children parked their ‘wheels’ outside their classroom. Occasionally you could hear a child calling their friend when they arrived at school to show them what they had brought. In Grade 1 and 2 the children were heard predicting how many swimming or walking laps they thought they would be able to achieve with the Grade 2 children hoping to beat their score from last year.

At the Wheel-a-thon, each lap was recorded on a card with the help of the adults present. In Grade 1 and 2 the children received an elastic band for every lap they ran or helped by the parent and grandparent volunteers for the day. It was heart-warming to see the children cheer each other on and help each other when they could see their friends slowing down.  When they had completed their session they went to their class teacher to count how many laps they had completed.

It was a truly wonderful day and we thank everyone who sponsored children or made generous donations. The money raised will be used to upgrade facilities and equipment in the Junior Prep.
