Junior Prep Outreach

February 18, 2016 | Junior Preparatory

As a college, St Stithians is involved in many outreach programmes. The Junior Prep, as gateway to the college, involve themselves in many ‘care’ initiatives.

Grade R supports ‘Animals in Distress’.  The children were delighted to welcome Heather and her rescue dog, Ted, this week.  Ted is an ambassador for ‘Animals in Distress’ and helped the children to understand what it means to be ‘distressed’.  They learnt how to care for their pets and the importance of helping others to care for theirs.  The children were encouraged to bring donations of pet food this term, in order to help look after abandoned and sick animals.

Grade 1 & 2 support Blair Athol School. In accordance with the needs on their wish list, last year we donated water containers and cups for each classroom, as they have only one tap on the school grounds. We also donated sports equipment, paper, cleaning materials and treats for their Christmas Party. They were also eternally grateful for our donation of desks, as many of their children were sitting on the floor during lessons. This year we will be assisting with landscaping their playground area.

Our staff, parents and children knit and crochet squares for blankets for the ‘67 blankets for Mandela day’ initiative. This is an ongoing project along with other projects that take place around Mandela Day.

We have 3 civvies days per year and the proceeds go towards children in need, endangered animals and our outreach partnerships.

We take part in campus outreach initiatives like the CANSA Shav-a-thon (always an exciting day as the children have their hair sprayed in bright colours) and the Thandulwazi Stationery Drive.

Lastly and most importantly we always collect for those less fortunate at Christmas time.

‘If you are more fortunate than others, it is better to build a longer table than a higher wall’.
