Grade RR Opening

March 12, 2021 | Campus, Junior Preparatory

On Monday 8 March our long wait was over, as with great excitement we welcomed our little Grade RR’s to their new home, the Grade RR Classroom Block.  The room was filled with sparkle, excitement and many different activities and provocations.  The parents were greeted with a delicious cup of freshly brewed coffee and a super large choc chip cookie. The children arrived with great excitement. Some, however,  were a little cautious as they entered their new space.  There was much debate over which activity they wanted to participate in. The mud kitchen was a huge attraction and delicious mud cakes and puddings were lovingly baked and served. Other children investigated light and shadows and some enjoyed the fantasy area, drinking a delicious cup of tea and eating a slice of cake.  As one little girl said: ‘I am in heaven.’

The parents were delighted with the beautiful space. Some were fascinated by the ‘old school’ desk top projector whilst other parents expressed how impressed they were with the décor, excited that their children would be learning in this new innovative space, and be the pioneers of this special project.

The structure of the classrooms and space created has been influenced by the Reggio Emilia philosophy. The open spaces, natural materials, wood and plants, with emphasis on reflection, shadow, muted tones and light is evident in the classrooms. Much thought and planning went into the design of the space.  Mrs Gayle Harris, Mrs Chantel Jarvis and Mrs Isla Walter visited Reggio Emilia in 2017, and the dream of delivering a Reggio inspired space began on their travels.

Thank you to “One and All” for all your support with this new addition to the Junior Prep.
