Grade R Sports Day

October 13, 2023 | Junior Preparatory

The day arrived! It was with great excitement that the Grade R children made their way down to the field for their Sports Day on 21 September. For many of the children this was their very first Sports Day!

‘We are the champions’ could be heard as each class was announced and welcomed as they entered the sports area, waving with excitement when they spotted their own special supporters. Proudly wearing their house shirt, hats on their heads, and water bottles in hand, they lined up in front of the grandstands to start the proceedings. The welcome from the Head, Mrs Harris, was followed by a spirited rendition of the Saints JP Spirit Cry. As the echo of ‘We’ve got the Spirit’ resounded, each class went to their first station, their parents in tow, to start the first event.

The children confidently took part in various rotations of fabulous sporting activities which showcased a myriad of skills the children have learnt this year, including running races, obstacle courses, relay races, soccer dribbling, ball skills and javelin throwing. Each class participated in the six rotation activities set up for them, while our parents were invited to accompany their child’s class. The children’s faces shone with enthusiasm and delight as they gave their all and shouted encouragement to their classmates.

Hot and tired, they returned to the grandstands for the grand finale: the moms’ and dads’ fun races! It was easy to see where our children get their talent, as much laughter and shouting could be heard. In the spirit of One and All, sportsmanship and team work were strong throughout the morning and it was a very special event on our calendar.

We thank all the parents for taking the time to come and support their children.
