Grade One Orienteering

March 10, 2023 | Junior Preparatory

On 2 March 2023 the Grade One children participated in an Orienteering Event with their parents. It was wonderful to have parents involved in this special event that was specifically designed for our Grade One children.

Orienteering is a sport that requires navigational skills, using a map to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain, whilst moving at speed. Our Grade One children and their parents were given a topographical map of St Stithians College, a specially prepared orienteering map, which they used to find control points around our beautiful campus.

O-Ventures ran the event for us and they gave a brief overview of the event before everyone started the forty-minute orienteering event on the school property. This was followed by a picnic under the stars.

The event was a great success, enjoyed by all the children and parents. “This was the best day ever!” exclaimed one child as he completed the event. Orienteering is part of our Outdoor Education programme, which helps to enrich the lives of our children by giving them new experiences and a real sense of achievement.
