Coding, Cupcakes & Big Sister Moments!
"When you teach a child to code, you're not just imparting a skill—you’re unlocking a universe of opportunities." Unknown
On Saturday 1 March, our gathering place was filled with joyful shrieks as the young ones from Kwena Molapo arrived early for a morning filled with coding, robotics and, of course, cupcakes!
While the delightful treats were a hit, it was the excitement of exploring technology that truly made the day memorable.
Our Grade 4 students stepped into their roles as "big sisters," leading the younger children from Kwena Molapo through thrilling tech experiences—driving Spheros, programming a Dance Party (with lots of dancing, of course!), and marveling as Ozobots followed binary colour codes. The Bee-Bots were a standout attraction! Watching them dance in sequence and navigate fun mazes brought immense joy to the little ones from Kwena Molapo. Each interactive station ignited curiosity, laughter and a sense of wonder.
Our community engagement morning has been a long time in the making. From the moment a devoted parent who works at Dell participated in one of our Coding and Cupcakes events, to collaborating with Dell to bring this day to life, we aimed to make it meaningful and intentional.
Our Grade 4 girls were phenomenal by being so supportive, patient, and kind; showcasing the power of mentorship and learning through play. To say we are proud of them is an understatement. A heartfelt thank you to the Kwena Molapo staff, Mrs Moyo and the amazing sponsorship from Dell for making this day unforgettable.
I would also like to thank the incredibly helpful Grade 4 team who brought much fun, love and laughter to the day: Mrs Mtshweni, Mrs Booysen, Mrs Nonhono, Ms Musandiwa and Mr Khuluse.
The Kwena Molapo students left with happy hearts, full bellies and a newfound love for coding and robotics. It was a day where #GirlsinTech flourished, #InnovateHERS inspired, and #GirlsCanCode demonstrated that the future is bright! And thanks to our new friends from Kwena Molapo, we now have another hashtag: #EVERYONECANCODE.
