Celebrating 60 Years of Round Square: Shaping Global Citizens Through Timeless Ideals
This year marks a major milestone as Round Square celebrates 60 years of inspiring global citizenship.
Founded in 1965 and rooted in the educational philosophy of German educator Kurt Hahn, Round Square has long championed character development, experiential learning and international understanding.
At our school, the Round Square Ideals are more than just values; they are a part of daily life. Our Grade 7 leaders have embraced these principles with enthusiasm, leading initiatives that reflect the six IDEALS. Highlights include a Youth Day campaign for democracy, ongoing bottle top collections for environmental awareness and strong leadership from our public relations and fellowship girls. Meanwhile, the Internationalism Committee and Adventure Committee keep our weekly line-ups vibrant and engaging.
In December, six of our Grade 7 students will be attending the Round Square conference in Tanzania, hosted by St Constantine. With a focus on environmentalism, the programme promises to be a fun and transformative experience. The five days include: learning about soil erosion, walking with rescued giraffe, exploring the role of bees in ecosystems and gaining sustainable living insights from the Maasai Tribe.
Recognising the positive impact that the Round Square philosophy has on our Grade 7s, we plan to introduce the IDEALS to all our grades as of 2026. This will ensure that even our youngest students grow with values of empathy, responsibility, service leadership and global awareness.
As Round Square enters its seventh decade, we celebrate its legacy and continued relevance. These timeless IDEALS remain essential in preparing students to become the compassionate, responsible, globally-minded leaders our world needs.
