Below Ice
Our rock band, Below Ice, was recently selected to participate in the final round of the St Mary's battle of the bands competition which took place on Friday night. They were one of ten bands who went through to the finals and were chosen out of a record number of almost 50 bands from all over Gauteng that auditioned for the competition. They had to present two songs of which one had to be their own original composition.

We are very proud to announce that they were crowned overall winners and walked away with prizes in excess of R40 000. Amongst the prizes are studio time to record a fully produced EP album and a sound desk worth R20 000 for the Music Department. Hoërskool Linden won the second prize and Hoërskool Randburg came third.

We are indeed very proud of Tshekiso Kepadisa, Steven van Wyk, Chad Kennedy, Craig Howden and Stephane Marais.

Equestrian
Congratulations to Thomas Triggol who had a superb Equestrian show during the holidays. The South African Pony and Young Rider Derby is one of the main events on the Showjumping calendar. He won two out of the four classes over the four day show and, as a result, won the 1.10m Victor Ludorum. This result means that Tom is one of the highest-placed young riders in the country.

Golf
Haydn Driver has qualified to play in the US Kids Golf European Championship in Scotland from 26 - 30 May 2014 and he will represent the SA Kids Golf in the boys U14 age group.

Water Polo
Well done to Ethan Hunter and Nicholas van der Elst, who both made the final round of the South African U18 Water Polo Squad. Final selection for the team was made on the weekend of 16 - 18 May 2014, and results are still pending.

Boys' College Choir
The International Boys' School Coalition has requested that our Boys' College Choir submits a video recording of a song for its annual conference; this is a huge honour and I congratulate the Choir and Mrs Schoeman for all their efforts.

Luke Evans competed in the Sani2c race. He was really strong over the 3 days (270km's) and finished 52nd in 11 hours, out of the 750 teams. His main focus this year remains the National Marathon series, comprising 8 events around the country of 45kms. He has raced Dullstroom, Sabie, Tullbagh and Clarens and has taken the series lead after the last race!
