Bee Day in the Junior Prep

May 27, 2022 | Junior Preparatory

Last week Friday, 20 May, there was a great buzz in the Junior Prep as One and All joined the Campus in celebrating World Bee Day.

May was the chosen month for World Bee Day because in the northern hemisphere the need for pollination is greatest during this period, while in the southern hemisphere it is a time for harvesting honey and bee products.

The children and staff all arrived wearing their creative outfits.

The day started off with a bee-themed Chapel service which the children really enjoyed.

Thereafter, there were many activities planned for the children to celebrate this day. They were treated to a presentation from a bee keeper who came to talk to them about the importance of bees. The children were fascinated by her bee keeper outfit. She told them many interesting facts and showed them some videos which had many of the children going ‘Wow!’. They learned why we need to look after bees and were also shown some items made from bees wax.

After the show the children had an opportunity to ask her questions and some of the questions were quite impressive.

When the talk ended the children made their way back to the classroom where there were many fun activities planned for them. There were art activities, bee movies, stories about bees, movement activities that had them buzzing about pretending to be bees and learning songs about bees. The firm favourite was the honey tasting!

It was a truly wonderful day enjoyed by everyone.
