Basketball isn’t just for big boys!

When I say ‘Basketball’, I’m sure the immediate picture brought to mind is of incredibly tall American men, running around in a seemingly aimless way on a small court.  Tasselled, chanting girls prance around on the sidelines, screaming hysterically while jumping in the air whenever one of the tall men clings onto the poled net and dunks the ball into it. But take away all the hype and all the noise, and you have a game that relies on the ability to make instant decisions, to judge moves made by constantly moving opponents, and to pinpoint that small net with accuracy.

This isn’t a game for sissies, which is why the successful US players earn so much money.

Boys’ Prep has realised that training its young sportsmen to play basketball from an early age doesn’t just teach them how to throw a ball with precision: what is does is develop decision-making ability.  The game is so fast, and the moves so critical, that a wrong move can spell disaster for the team.  Each player therefore bears a huge responsibility for the success of the whole team.

What amazing lessons to learn from a game that is growing in popularity in our schools!

The boys we have playing at present are amazing!  They played recently in a St Peter festival and won 3 out of 4 games.

Basketball at Saints is attracting more and more of our boys (big and small!) who enjoy the challenge of this fast-paced game.

And, of course, there’s always the fame and fortune to look forward to when they’re famous!
