Annual Prefects Blazer Auction – donating towards good causes

June 24, 2019 | Boys’ College

Every year the Boys’ College Prefects auction their blazers and prefect privileges for a week and the grade 8s and 9s get the chance to bid on a prefect blazer of their choice. Not only is the day and week a lot of fun but the funds raised go towards very worthy causes. The bidding was fierce this year having one of the blazers reaching a record breaking sale of over R3000.

In total the prefects were able to raise R20 700.

R13 420 was donated to Dignity Dreams, an organisation involved in providing re-useable Sanitary Pads for underprivileged girls. The donation will go towards re-useable Sanitary Pads for Sparrow School in Auckland Park and Life Choices in Benoni.

R6100 was donated to Hotel of Hope. A home which is all about changing lives. Creating and running several small family style foster homes for orphaned and abandoned babies. Advocating for adoption and encouraging more South African families to adopt. The donation will go towards vital daily supplies.

The rest of the funds including funds raised from an upcoming civvies day will go towards Mandela Day.

As Winston Churchill once said: “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
