13 Years @ Saints … Welcome Home Matric Class of 2017.

September 29, 2017 | Junior Preparatory

The Matrics who started in Grade R in 2005 excitedly returned to where their journey began 13 years ago. The group of students and their parents were welcomed by Alistair Stewart, Head of Advancement and Gayle Harris, Head of the Junior Prep.

The excited students then returned to their old playground and visited their old classrooms, catching up with their Junior Prep teachers.

A particularly memorable part of the morning is when the 2017 Grade R’s and Matrics come together to sing school war cries. The Matrics then form a tunnel of honour for the Gr R’s to run through.

Many poignant comments were overheard: “Can you believe we were that small”, “the playground used to be so big”, “this awesome computer room used to be our music room, “the library looks like a ship now, we loved your stories Mrs Viljoen”, “can you believe this was our old classroom” …. and so on. The morning concluded with the matrics being invited to tea with their ‘old’ teachers and being presented with ‘Long Service Award’ certificates.

The morning brought to mind the last verse of our College song:

When school’s a distant memory,

Of happy youthful years,

We’ll oft times look behind us

To all that still endears.

We’ll “One and All” remember,

How could we e’er forget!

That here our ship once anchor’d

And here its course was set.
