Stepping Into the World of Grade RRR
Our Grade RRR Curriculum Experience Evening was a wonderful opportunity to share the heart of our approach to early learning with our parent community.
In Grade RRR, we focus on the whole child, not only what children know, but how they feel, how they connect with others and how they grow as individuals. Parents gained valuable insight into this through sessions led by our specialist team. Lauren Parker, our Educational Psychologist, guided us in understanding emotional development through our Scribble Spot Feelings approach, while Sharon Pearce, one of our Occupational Therapists, unpacked how children develop through play, including sensory development and identifying when additional support may be needed.
A highlight of the evening was introducing parents to the Atelier, inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy. This creative, exploratory space encourages children to express their ideas and thinking using a wide range of materials. Closely linked to this is the concept of the Remida Centre, where recycled and reclaimed materials are thoughtfully collected and presented, not as waste, but as possibilities. In the Atelier, these materials are transformed through imagination, with a strong emphasis on process over product and no single “right” way to create.
Parents then had the opportunity to step into their children’s world through a hands-on, interactive experience. Working collaboratively in small groups, they sketched ideas, selected recycled materials and created their own unique constructions, just as their children do in the classroom. The creativity, problem-solving and teamwork on display reflected the principles of the Atelier.
To make the experience even more meaningful, these creations were sent back into the classroom, where the children continued the journey, playing with what their parents had made. This powerful connection between home and school beautifully demonstrated how learning is a shared and evolving process.
