Learning Our Rights, Living Our Responsibilities
To celebrate Human Rights Day, Junior Preparatory engaged in a variety of meaningful activities across the different grades. The day began with a whole‑school Assembly where children were introduced to the Constitution, the book of rules for our country, and learned about their Rights and Responsibilities at school. From our youngest students in RRR to the seniors in Junior Preparatory, the Grade 2s, each Grade celebrated the day in a meaningful and age‑appropriate way.
Our Grade RRRs explored the idea that everyone matters and that all children have the right to feel safe, included and heard through stories, discussion and a kindness game. Grade RR marked the day with a fun “election day” activity, voting for their favourite bug, and created model homes to highlight the right to a clean and safe home. Grade R students created interlocking hands as a reminder that we are all connected and play a role in respecting and protecting one another’s Rights and Responsibilities. Grade 1 students designed flowers with petals representing important Rights and Responsibilities, while Grade 2 children created their own Constitution booklets focused on Children’s Rights.
It was heartwarming to see students across all Grades engaging so thoughtfully as they built an understanding of respect, fairness and responsibility.
