Grade 5 Camp Kamoka 2025

Girls’ Preparatory, Campus |  Author: Mrs Mary Kyd

Before the sun had even risen on Tuesday 10 September, the air was filled with excitement as our Grade 5s set off on their long-awaited camp to Kamoka. They embarked on a journey that would challenge their courage, strengthen their friendships, and create lifelong memories.

Over the next three days, our girls threw themselves into a wide range of activities designed to build resilience, teamwork and confidence. From energetic team-building games to a scenic hike through the natural surroundings, every moment was an opportunity to grow and connect. One of the most unforgettable experiences was the leap of bravery, jumping off a 2-metre waterfall! With cheers of encouragement echoing around them, the girls faced their fears and took the plunge.

They explored aquatic ecosystems, discovering and documenting fascinating water creatures from the dam. This hands-on activity sparked curiosity and deepened their appreciation for the natural world.

Evenings brought their own kind of adventure: a night time team challenge and a solitary reflection. One particularly daring challenge involved tasting mopane worms! Their bravery earned them ingredients for a potjie, which they prepared and cooked together, enjoying the fruits of their teamwork under the stars.

Throughout the camp, the girls were responsible for keeping their units clean and their dining areas tidy. Points were awarded for neatness, cooperation, and spirit, instilling a sense of pride and responsibility in every camper.

By the time they returned on Friday, the girls had not only made new memories but also discovered new strengths within themselves. We are incredibly proud of their courage, kindness and camaraderie. A heartfelt thank you goes to the staff, facilitators and parents who made this experience possible.
