Announcement of Mr Sandile Khuluse as Deputy Head: Pastoral Care for Boys

September 04, 2023 | Boys’ College

We take pleasure in announcing that Mr Sandile Khuluse has been appointed as a Deputy Head: Pastoral Care for Boys. He will begin his tenure on 1 September 2023.

In the process of appointing two new deputy heads for the Boys’ College, we have gone through a process of re-evaluating the scope and complexity of the work that sits with each deputy, as well as that of Mr Khuluse in his role as our Director of Pastoral Care for Boys. Mr Khuluse’s role and load have grown exponentially over the last two years with him now managing a team of close to 20 reports along with having a growing active role in parent engagement. He has grown the role as the demand for well-being and the challenges faced by adolescent boys have increased. He has embraced the challenges and accepted the added load as well-being in schools has become a huge focus in its own right, never mind the discipline as well as the house system. The role has grown, his accountability has grown, and we believe the role needed to be rescoped.

As such, in consultation with the Head of Human Resources and the Rector, and with approval from our Chair of Council and Chair of our People and Talent Committee, it was decided that the Boys’ College would return to having three deputy heads, as we had done previously. As such Mr Khuluse’s role will now be referred to as Deputy Head: Pastoral Care for Boys, and he now has the title, Deputy Head. We also agreed that he would assume this new role from the start of Term 3.

Mr Khuluse joined St Stithians Boys’ College in 2013, where he assumed his role as House Director of Webb House until 2020.

We thank Mr Khuluse for the excellent work he has done as Director and congratulate him on his promotion to Deputy Head.

We continue to wish Sandile and his family all the best in his position.
