A Joyful Celebration of Africa Day

Junior Preparatory, Campus

Africa Day was a joyful and vibrant celebration at the Junior Prep, bringing together students and staff for a memorable cultural experience. The day began with an energetic African music jam session, where the school community united through song, dance and rhythm, with students eagerly exploring drums and percussion instruments.

A special Assembly followed, where Grade 2 students confidently shared fascinating facts about African countries, showcasing both their knowledge and pride in the continent’s rich diversity.

Throughout the week, classrooms came alive with African-inspired art, music and storytelling. Highlights included Grade 2 gumboot dancing, creative “graphic score” storytelling with instruments and engaging story-based music activities across all grades. Students also explored traditional instruments such as the mbira, shekere and gungun drum, deepening their cultural understanding through hands-on learning.

Africa Day was a meaningful celebration of heritage, creativity and community, leaving lasting memories and a deeper appreciation of Africa’s diversity.
