Rock the boat Weekend

The girls rowing club participated in the Rock the Boat Regatta at Roodeplaat Dam on 6 Feb. This is a fun but serious regatta where everyone from beginner U14 rowers to Olympic champions compete against each other. All crews are placed in ranked finals based on their times from a heads race. Finals consist of different boat classes where athletes may not be of the same gender or age.

Our parents crew (all Old Saints Boys) consisting of Dave Martin (2) , Bryton Etter (bow), Glenn Williams (3), Andrew Williamson (cox), Tim Keegan (stroke), set out to take on the challenges of the various crews at the Rock the Boat regatta – also called "Too old to Rock and Roll but Too young to die”.

In their first race (a head race)  they averaged around 12.5 km/h, and in their final picked up the pace, starting  at 17km/h and averaged approx. 14km/h to the finish. It was a nail biting finish against KES U15 eight, beating KES by .01, in a time of 04:17.90. - Well done team!

Each crew has their time compared to a benchmark time for their boat class and the crew with the highest percentage wins the event. Tegan Korevaar was the top performing school girl crew of the day in her scull coming 15th out of 114 crews.

The U15 girls teamed up with some of the U15 boys from the boys club and rowed in an 8 together.
