Holly Norton - World Champion Rower shares her journey

October 16, 2017 | Girls’ College

It was a privilege to have Holly Norton (2011) address the Girls’ College. This world champion rower reminded the girls about the importance of remaining committed.

Holly Norton was an inspiration for our girls and is a wonderful ambassador for our College.  Holly was always a talented sportswoman at school and excelled in hockey and water polo and swimming, in fact at all sports!.  In her Grade 10 year she switched to Rowing after attending the annual rowing camp and as she said "looking out at the lovely sunrises and sunsets on the game reserve environment where our girls row, that was when I decided to take up this wonderful sport."

In her matric year she qualified for the Junior World Championships and was placed 8th.  She received a full scholarship at the University of Ohio and completed her degree in Psychology, rowed for Great Britain at the World Championships (2015) and was placed 2nd.  Her heart was always set on the goal of a gold medal and so she trained with the Great Britain National squad after her degree and won Gold at the next World Championships (2016 - Rotterdam).

Her message to the girls was about commitment, set your goals and reach your dreams!

After chapel the rowing girls posed for photographs with our Saints World Champion.  Holly donated her Great Britain trisuit to the Girls' College for our memorabilia for the Sports Pavilion.
