Junior Prep Sport-a-Thon

November 09, 2018 | Junior Preparatory

On Thursday 1 November the much anticipated Junior Prep fund raising initiative took place. The children were very excited and not even the overcast weather could dampen their spirits.

Walking through Grade R you could hear and see the children showing off their bikes, scooters, tricycles, prams and other wheeled items to their friends. They couldn’t wait for the bell to ring. In Grade 1 & 2 the children were talking about how many laps they thought they would do and some Grade 2 children were hoping to beat their record from last year.

The Grade R children were going to participate in the Wheel-a-thon and the Grade 1 and 2 children could either choose to do the Walk-a-thon or Swim-a-thon. Classes went up to the Aquatics Centre, car park and Henning Field at different times. At one point we thought the rain would stop the proceedings but Mother Nature was on our side.

With each lap cycled the Grade R children kept tally, with the help of the teacher, on a board they had and in true team work you could see some of the children helping and encouraging their friends around the track. In Grade 1 and 2 the children received a bangle for every lap that they ran or swam and at the end they counted how many they had collected.

For all their hard work the children were treated to a delicious ice lolly.

Thank you to everyone who sponsored the children and for the generous donations. The money raised will be used to upgrade facilities and equipment in the Junior Prep.
