POLICY DOCUMENT

 

LEARNERS DRIVING ON THE GROUNDS OF ST STITHIANS COLLEGE

 

1     This policy supersedes any other previous policy that may have been in operation in any of the schools of St Stithians College.

 

2                St Stithians College learners may only drive a motor vehicle and/or motorbike, quad or motorised scooter on the grounds of the College under the following conditions:

 

2.1          He/she is in possession of a valid Driver's Licence, issued by the Traffic Department, a certified copy of which must be given to the Head of school.

 

2.2          He/she has a signed letter of permission from the Head of school granting permission for that learner to bring his/her motor vehicle, and/or motorbike, quad or motorised scooter onto the College grounds.

 

2.3          No learner may drive any other motorised vehicle (quad, scooter etc) unless he/she is over 16 years of age and has written permission from his/her Head of school.

 

2.4          No learner may drive a motorbike, quad or motorised scooter unless he/she is wearing a helmet.

 

3                Learners may not give lifts to other learners unless they have the written permission of the Head of school, as well as their own parents and the parents of their passengers.  These letters will be placed on the relevant learner's files.

 

4                At all times drivers will be required to strictly obey the speed limits, all the road markings and traffic signs on the College roads.  The general rules of courtesy on the road will also apply and disciplinary action will be taken against any learner found contravening these regulations.

 

5                Driving across the school fields or lawns is strictly forbidden.

 

6                Learners are requested to park in the designated Learner Parking Areas.  These areas will be communicated to learners as required.

 

7                Learners may not sit in their cars during normal school hours, especially during breaks.

 

8                Learners may not drive their vehicles during normal school hours to attend lessons in other parts of the school, e.g. for lessons at the Girls' College or vice versa.

 

9                Learners caught leaving the school premises during normal school hours or during breaks are deemed absent without consent and disciplinary action will be taken.

 

10            Learners driving in a learner capacity must do so only if accompanied by their parent/s.  Further a learner driver "L" sign should be clearly displayed on the vehicle being driven. 

 

11            Infringements of these rules and/or reckless or dangerous driving may result in the termination of a learner's permission to drive within the College grounds.  Other disciplinary action may also be effected.
