CAMPUS RESOURCE CENTRES

Our Mission

Our common mission is to play a central role in building partnerships for learning by:

  • providing direction and physical access to the world of information resources
  • stimulating interest in reading
  • facilitating the student, professional and organisational learning process

Our educational goals are:

  • To support and enhance the St Stithians mission and goals 
  • To support a resource-based, real-world, active learning curriculum
  • To provide leadership in and support of collaborative partnerships between students, teachers, parents and community
  • To stimulate higher order thinking through embedding information skills in the curriculum
  • To promote knowledge creation and communication by students and teachers alike

Our informational goals are:

  • To provide equitable access to local, national and global learning resources in all formats
  • To carefully source, select, organize and promote learning resources for our community, with particular emphasis on resources appropriate to the African context

Our cultural goals are:

  • To promote social and cultural awareness and sensitivity within a South African, African and global context
  • To support the concept that intellectual freedom and access to information are prerequisite to effective, responsible and democratic citizenship

Our  recreational goals are:

  • To develop and sustain the habit and enjoyment of reading and learning amongst our whole community
  • To encourage meaningful use of leisure time through the provision of appropriate recreational information, materials and programmes
