Saints Water Polo Invitational 2018

St Stithians College is excited to host the 25th Saints Water Polo Invitational over the half-term weekend, an incredible milestone in our polo history. Our aquatics centre is a hive of activity over this festive weekend with Prep and College water polo games over four action-packed days.  The excitement begins at 12h45 on Thursday 18th October 2018 with a short welcoming ceremony before play gets under way.

We invite everyone to come and enjoy the matches that will run from the 18th October to the 21st October 2018.  This year sees 52 participating teams drawn from schools in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape and Zimbabwe.  These teams, of course, include our St Stithians Girls’ College and Boys’ College teams.

Over the weekend, a total of over 170 games will be played by over 700 competitors. This may make the Saints Water Polo Invitational the largest schools’ water polo event in the Southern Hemisphere that is held at one venue.

The first fixtures for the Saints Teams on Thursday 18th October 2018 are as follows:

13h00 – St Stithians Boys’ College vs Westville Boys High (KZN) (Main Polo Pool)
14h20 – St Stithians Girls’ College vs Diocesan School for Girls (DSG) Grahamstown (Main Polo Pool)

The water polo players will have access to medical facilities that will be in operation from within in the main pool enclosure.  There are also onsite physios and biokineticists for the duration of the festival.

The Saints Water Polo Invitational will end on Sunday 21st October with the finals for the three age groups, followed by a prize-giving ceremony. During this prize giving ceremony, an All Star team is announced; the team is comprised of and voted for by the water polo coaches during the event.
