Mandela Day

July 19, 2016 | Junior Preparatory

The Junior Prep believes that Mandela Day actions, no matter how big or small, should focus on the realisation or restoration of dignity and empowerment through contributions.

On Monday 18 July we aspired to the Nelson Mandela Foundation motto, ‘Take Action. Inspire Change’.

  • We held a civvies day where the children came dressed ‘Proudly South African’. They wore South African inspired clothing or came dressed in a colour of the South African flag.
  • Our Head Mrs Gayle Harris held a special assembly highlighting ‘making a difference’ in the lives of others.
  • The children did a litter drive around the campus.
  • Finally, in support of our ‘67 Blankets for Mandela Day’ initiative, families generously donated well in excess of 400 blankets. Many grannies, moms, staff and children also knitted squares for blankets. These will be distributed to organisations such as Babies behind Bars, Tsietsi Informal Settlement and Bryanston Methodist Church
