COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

The Cultural Committee had the honour of hosting the first group of Cosmo City’s Tirisano Primary School students on Thursday 8 February. We worked with 21 students from Grades 6 and 7, teaching them theatre sports games and dance. The theatre sports focussed on sustaining high levels of energy and concentration, as well as exaggerated characterisation techniques. We ended the session by teaching the learners a quick hip hop routine, incorporating some of their own moves and dance styles, which we performed to our facilitator, Mrs Chilvers, and some teachers from the school.

At first, the students from Tirisano were shy and fearful, but as soon as we were able to get creative, they began to come out of their shells. We found it was quite effective to have smaller groups, as it meant we could maintain energy levels and that each student could receive our full attention.

Workshop facilitators: Botlhale Boikanyo, Tayla Marsh, Sisipho Makolomakwe, Bongi Dhlomo, Nadine Acheampong and Tyla Van Ryswyck.
