At St Stithians Girls’
College we believe in instilling Christian
values and caring. We are passionate that,
in a world of change, pupils are given a
holistic education.

Girls are divided
into four classes per grade. Groups are diverse according to subject
choice. There are approximately 10 half hour lessons per day.
Examinations take place twice a year, with continuous assessment taking
place throughout the year by submitting a portfolio of evidence.
Portfolios are subject specific where various skills, knowledge values
and attitudes are demonstrated.
Annual parent

In Grade 10
pupils need to choose their subjects for Grade 12. Pupils are required
to take 7 subjects: 4 compulsory subjects and a choice of 3 subjects
from the subject list above.
Formal reports
are issued at the end of every term and parent and pupil interviews are
arranged to receive feedback from subject teachers. Modern computer
centres and resource centres enable pupils to pursue their own
research. There is a Learning Support
Specialist who assists teachers and pupils with specific academic needs,
from those with barriers to learning to those who are more gifted.
St Stithians
learners write the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) Matriculation
Exam. The IEB National Senior Certificate (NSC) is recognised in South
Africa and is internationally benchmarked. Many candidates are accepted
into overseas universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard and Yale.
The IEB is
committed to using its assessment procedures to promote better teaching
and learning within the outcomes based education framework.
Teachers attend
annual subject user group conferences to discuss and keep up to date
with matters relating to the curriculum and examinations.
