Some Biographical
Details
For those of you who don't know me outlined below is a
brief biographical description. I am a born and bred
Jo'burger, living most of my life here. I am married to
Elinor and we have four children (Claire, Michael, Simon
and Patrick), Elinor is also a teacher by profession,
specialising in French and English, although for the
moment has her hands full in caring for our four
children. I come from a family of teachers, where two of
my sisters are in the profession and both parents are
also teachers. One could say that it literally runs in
the blood.
I completed my initial
training and degree at Wits University and my teaching
subjects are History and Biblical Studies. I completed a
masters Degree in Education and Development at the
University of London in 1993. I am involved in a number
of other professional associations and initiatives
outside of school life, including serving as a Director
on the Boards of the IEB and the Catholic Institute of
Education (CIE). I also serve as the IEB History Paper
II examiner. Prior to joining Saints I served as the
Head of College at Sacred Heart College from 1996.
My wife and I are
practising Catholics. I am firmly committed to the
spirit of ecumenism in the world today. I believe that
people of faith, not only from the Christian tradition
but from all the major religions, have an important
contribution to make towards helping create a culture of
sanity in a world that increasingly seems to be going
mad.
