Dear Alumni
2010 Soccer World Cup
St Stithians College has signed a lease with Saints Soccer City Trust, a group of parents, who have come up with an initiative to raise funds for the school during the 2010 World Cup period. The initiatives include:
- Renting accommodation to tourists for the World Cup period
- Using one of the fields as a training facility for the Australian soccer team prior to World Cup and a training facility for one of the finalist teams during the World Cup
- Providing a “viewing / entertainment area” for Corporates who have not bought tickets to watch the games live. This will include marquees on the fields, big-screen TV, entertainment, etc. The maximum number of people that will be accommodated on any one day is 15,000.
Due to all of the above happening at the school, security will be extremely tight, and as a result, all users of school facilities, other than those associated with the event will be unable to use the facilities during this period. The Prep/Ridgway, Baytopp/Main and Jameson fields will be unavailable for 3 weeks prior to the World Cup in order to set up the viewing area and marquees, i.e. from 21 May 2010 to 12 July 2010. All other facilities will be unavailable from 11 June to 12 July 2010.
We are informing you now, so that you can make alternative arrangements with your clients / book other venues in time. We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause, and thank you in advance for your co-operation. If you have any queries, please feel free to e-mail them to Rene Swart at rswart@stithian.com and she will respond accordingly.
Yours faithfully

Saints Alumni Making a Difference
On 27 September 2009, two brothers from Nkosi’ Haven, Ayanda and Sanele Buthelezi, will form part of a group of 20 passionate fundraising mountaineers who will climb Kilimanjaro to raise funds for this Johannesburg based HIV/Aids orphanage. Mark Human(1985) and Mark van der Walt (1985) will be climbing along with these two lads from Nkosi's Haven.
Ayanda and Sanele grew up as Aids orphans and they have been cared for at Nkosi’s Haven since 2001. When 21 year old Ayanda was given an opportunity to raise funds for this special place he called ‘Home’ by climbing some of the highest and challenging mountains in the world, he jumped at the opportunity and immediately signed up his 18 year old brother, Sanele. Once they have completed the Kilimanjaro challenge, they are heading west to Argentina in January 2010 from where they will embark on a three-week expedition into the heart of the Andean mountain range in an attempt to reach the summit of Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the southern and western hemispheres and the highest mountain outside the Himalayas.
Donations can be made through the following website www.backabuddy.co.za/Ayanda or you can contact Mark van der Walt on MWalt@RUSSELL.COM.
The St Stithians Girls College Round Square Committee will be having a Golf Day on 26 March 2010 at Bryanston Country Club to raise funds to send the Student Support Programme Girls on an Exchange Programme.
