WELCOME TO ST STITHIANS JUNIOR PREPARATORY

Index

Welcome to the St Stithians Junior Preparatory Web Site.

Attending St Stithians Junior Preparatory marks the beginning of your child’s journey through the College and we hope that these early years will be a happy and successful experience for you and your child.

Our aim is to make our school a place where all people feel welcome and valued: a place of security and love where children's dreams are realized.

Our Mission

“To fulfill our founders’ vision of providing a liberal education with Christian teaching in an effective school which achieves high academic and individual expectations based on international standards and relevant to the entire community of Southern Africa.”

Our Philosophy

The Junior Preparatory School aims to develop the child as a whole, educationally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. It encompasses the essence of a holistic learning environment that is inclusive and multi-cultural. Each child’s individual needs and talents are taken into consideration. We seek to implement life long values, a stable academic platform to work from and sound self esteem.

Academic Policy

An important part of the schools philosophy is providing for the development of basic skills in the key learning areas that form the foundation of all relevant future learning. We aim to plant the seeds for future study and instill a desire to continue the journey of learning.

The Curriculum is based on Outcome-Based Education (OBE) principles and a constructivist approach to learning. It places strong emphasis on teaching children the foundation skills that will be needed in their future educational pursuits. This includes Numeracy, Literacy and Life Skills involving independent thought and a cultivation of the children's natural desire to learn and succeed. Our emphasis is on "Learning to Learn".

Integrated Day

The St Stithians Junior Preparatory school day is structured in such a way to include sporting activities within the normal school day. School begins at 07h50 each day and ends at 13h00 for Grade R and at 13h40 for Grades 1 and 2. On Friday school closes early at 13h00 for all.

There are many benefits to having an integrated day. It enables the school to out-source top quality coaches, who would normally providing private training for children outside school hours. The school is able to maximize the use of its facilities, allowing all children to benefit and take part in sporting activities.
